"CHINA NIGHT" ROSE BALL Saturday, March 20, 2004
Under the Presidency of H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince and H.R.H. the Princess of Hanover, the "China Night" Rose Ball will be held on Saturday, 20 March 2004, at 8 p.m., in aid of the Princess Grace Foundation.
As soon as guests arrive at the Sporting Monte-Carlo, they will be plunged into an atmosphere of the China of yesterday and today. A Chinese dragon and dogs will welcome them to the sound of a percussion ensemble. Bright red, golden and shocking pink roses will be arranged in big Chinese vases. The Salle des Etoiles will be completely changed and transformed into an immense lacquer box with motifs inspired by the screens of Coromandel, in tones of red and gold. The town will be seen through a golden veil that will give it a mysterious appearance. The gold lacquered walls will be covered by oversized floral motifs, in shades ranging from purple to pink. The fabric created by Chanel for the tablecloths and napkins are inspired by a pattern from an antique shawl embroidered by monks during the 19th century. The table centres will have sumptuous dragons springing out of bouquets of roses, holding multicoloured lanterns in their mouths. On stage, framed by two huge red and gold lanterns, symbols of happiness and prosperity, an orchestra composed of Chinese women musicians will play contemporary tunes on traditional instruments. The show will last all evening, with an alternation of contemporary and traditional artists performing against a constantly moving backdrop. A skilful blend of modernity and tradition will dominate the evening. A dazzling and unforgettable night, a "China Night" in Monte-Carlo.
