Wilhelm started at the Blendstat in 1509 and then, like his younger brother Klaus, ran the butchery at the Eichtor. Wilhelm Seckel was a butcher and a member of the Council from 1526 to 1550: he also took care of the ministry for many years, i.e., he was a follower of reformation. Feyerabend, the poet, called him a "miser who is heaping up big money." As a matter of fact, he accumulated 7600 Gulden and was the richest man in his family. He was also the fourth highest tax payer in the city. In 1547 he funded alms for the pauper which his brothers and sisters and children renewed in 1557. On the board in honor of the donors at St. Michael's Church (Michaelskirche), the Seckel's bear the coat of arms which the majority of the reputable families of the established bourgeoisie adopted then. In 1544 he became a member of the Court, i.e., the council of the upper twelve.
