This archive
consists of three files.
1.Elise
Wuppermann--Texanische Tagebücher 1850-1860 This is
the transcription, in German, of the diaries that my great grandmother,
Elise Tips Wupperman, kept in Texas from 1850 to 1860.
2.Otto
and Elise and Clara This is my mother's translation of
those
diaries plus two other sections. The diaries are preceded by the
letters
of Otto Wuppermann, Elise's husband, written from Texas to his father
in
Germany. These begin shortly after his arrival in Texas in 1848, and
end
shortly before his wedding to Elise. These are followed by the
reminiscences
of their daughter Clara Wupperman Tafel, telling of her girlhood in
Texas,
concluding in 1865 with the family's return to Germany.
3.The
House at Schüren This is my mother's translation of
reminiscences by Pastor Ernst Wuppermann about the family seat in the
Barmen
area in the Wupper Valley, at about 51degrees 15 minutes North and 7
degrees
10 minutes East. In his letters to his father, Otto mentions this
property
and how unhappy he is that it has been sold.
